Introduction (READ FIRST)

Memes as a cultural phenomenon

Memes might be the biggest internet phenomenon there’s ever been.
They can be anything - a picture, a gif, a video - and contain any message. Some of them die instantly, and some get seen by millions and become legendary.

They’re immortal creations that travel the internet forever, and spread super quickly across many different platforms:

  • big meme websites like 9gag and kwejk.pl,

  • social media groups and personal profiles on Facebook, Instagram, and others

  • multi-purpose communities like Reddit and 4chan,

  • direct messages on Whatsapp, Telegram, and more.

Web 2.0

All of these platforms are a part of what is generally called Web 2.0. It’s the current mainstream iteration of the Internet, based around the core concepts of user participation, customization, and nearly unlimited contribution to the available content. It’s epitomized by the prevalence of social media. It’s a great environment for memes to prosper - nearly all of them are user-generated, get viral and spread organically across the many different platforms, getting re-made, remixed, and otherwise modified along the way. They reach millions of users, and in no time the whole Internet seems to know what the next hot meme is.

The problem with memes in Web 2.0

There is, however, a big problem with how memes function in Web 2.0 - we know the meme, not the creator. Because of the complicated way that memes travel, and the multiple modifications we can expect along the way, we usually have no idea who actually made the memes. In effect their authors, who deserve all the recognition, get none.

It’s not only a question of vanity. Great songs and movies earn money for their creators - but memes don’t! They travel the internet, everyone knows them, and yet the authors have no functional way to monetize them. In effect, memes have no tangible value to speak of.

Our vision

Our platform will be the first in the world to introduce the concept of Memes 3.0 - memes reimagined with the possibilities presented by Web 3.0 in mind. We will give the creators the opportunity to mint their memes into NFTs that will confirm their ownership, build their brands, get rewards from community participation, and finally trade their work for cryptocurrency. This way, we will give ownership back to the creators, and create real, tangible value for their work. In short, we want to make the creators meme superstars.
